A BOLD DEMOCRAT, UNAFRAID
Terry Williams never leaves you wondering—he speaks his mind and pulls no punches. As the Vice Chairperson for the Ross County Democratic Party, Terry has boldly and publicly fought for Democratic Party values like representational fairness, voter access, public record transparency, and meaningful diversity in party leadership.
A loyal, lifelong Democrat, Terry has promoted hundreds of petitions for causes and candidates, knocked thousands of doors, recruited and encouraged candidates to run for public office, and supported the Democratic party with time and financial support for more than twenty years.
Always willing to listen and hear a new perspective, Terry has been instrumental in promoting party unity amid diverse opinions while helping individual Democrats remain true to their personal convictions. Take some time to read more about who Terry is and why he's running to represent southern Ohio on the Ohio Democratic Party State Central Committee.
Pike County Roots in a Labor Union Family
- Terry is a proud son of hardworking Union parents—Mom who was a member of AFSCME/OAPSE Local 421 in Waverly and Dad who was a member of USW 689 in Piketon/Portsmouth.
- Growing up in rural Pike County, Terry knows that the Democratic Party is strongest when the voice of progressive rural voters is heard & heeded.
- The experience of a life lived in Appalachia has shaped Terry's belief that diversity—both of opinion and in representation—is essential to a healthy, thriving democracy.
Restless Longing for a Better Democracy
- Terry believes that when more voices are heard in our democracy, better solutions are made.
- As Democrats, we have the opportunity to live our values by ensuring open process in party organization, informed consent in political decision-making, and radical fairness in settling disputes and conflicts.
- The health of our national democracy depends on the health of our Democratic Party; we cannot wait for other forces to create the better future for which we long. It's up to us to do better now.
Religious Values that Honor Diversity
- Terry believes that values of fairness, equity, compassion, and integrity are common among most Ohioans
- Religion informs Terry's worldview that all people are inherently valuable & that every person is gifted with gifts to share; diversity is a strength of our society that should be embraced, not a weakness to be feared.
- An ordained Minister of the United Church of Christ, Terry strongly supports the separation of church & state—his local church and denomination do not endorse candidates or parties, and Terry does not speak for them in his partisan advocacy.
